I really appreciated Vicente M. Diaz's subtle humor throughout the book! A very clever and insightful author.
Diaz writes on page 204 that, "An elder with whom I spoke was even dismayed to discover that San Vitores was not a Chamorro monsignor, that the Spaniard 'belongs to us' and 'is ours' specifically for the way that he spilled his blood on Guam." How much of San Vitores's legacy is dangerous to let it be beautified in myth and what are the implications of the "unholy alliance"? (206) Can we sketch out the reasons for why San Vitores has resurfaced in postwar years as opposed to earlier?
